Hess & Co AG was founded in 1929 by Franz Hess. Today, the company employs a staff of 90 people at the Döttingen (Aargau canton, Switzerland) site.
The company is active in the wood-processing industry sector. Our primary business is manufacturing veneers made of European round timber and processing these into plywood products. The core market services are the manufacturing of
- woodcores for the ski and snowboard industries
- moulded plywood for the furniture and automotive industries as well as for sport equipment manufacturers
- bed slats and bedframe panels for the bedding industry
- high-quality plywood for tables, furniture, model construction and facades
- Flame-retardant Plywood
- Plywood for constructional uses (Knottet Plywood, Plywood for industrial floors, Plywood for reinforcing beams
- rotary-cut veneer as a semi-finished product for the processing industry
At present, Hess & Co. AG\’s annual turnover amounts to approximately 14 million CHF. The high Swiss quality of the procucts allows an export share of 70% of the turnover, most of it in European countries.
With regard to woodcores for the ski and snowboard industries, Hess is the international market leader. In the other market segments, our range of products is customer-oriented.
Hess is internationally renowned for its high-quality Swiss products.
Our production is mainly characterised by high flexibility and versatile processing. Five CNC-controlled systems for manufacturing highly complex products have been deployed since the mid 1990s. Today, production takes place on a production space totalling 25,000 m². Already in 1998, a woodchip-fired system for generating process heat was put into service, designed according to state-of-the-art environmental protection principles.
What are our entrepreneurial goals for the future? We will continue our successful strategy of customer-oriented products with innovative products for ski and snowboard manufacturers as well as problem-solving solutions for technical applications. The very latest new developments in the moulded plywood segment are special moulds for the carriage and automotive industries as well as for the parcel distribution logistics sector. In the plywood segment, very interesting opportunities are opening up in the lightweight building panel (a combination of plywood and high load-bearing plastics) and flame-resistant materials segments. In a word: by utilising our know-how and multipurpose machinery, we will tap into new markets and ship our \”Specialities in Wood\” to customers world-wide.
Convinced that also in future, wood will remain an important factor in our life, we are developping day after day new innovative constructions to meet our customers\’ needs even better.
